This coming weekend sees us take part in the Nationwide celebration of 800 years of Magna Carta. Find out more about Helmsley’s link with the historic document here in a 30 minute video by Martyn Vander Weyer https://youtu.be/_rAiQswNzgI Our baron, Robert De Ros, at the time living in Helmsley Castle was a signatory on the document, marking Helmsley’s place in history forever, as an independent forward thinking town, a tradition continued today by Helmsley in Business! So what jewellery is fit for a medieval maiden? Long pendants were popular, as were brooches, and no medieval lady would be without rings on her fingers. Nothing new there then? However, medieval jewellery also included hat badges, decorations for belts, weapons, purses and other accessories, and decorated pins, mostly for holding hairstyles and head-dresses in place, not something we sell much of these days. Although, with such a wide variety of suppliers to draw on, we never say never to special customer requirements, and always try to satisfy even unusual requests!
